I wish you would learn to let go of things that weren’t intended to be yours.

I wish you the ability to wave goodbye to the things that don’t fit into your story, walking away with your head held high and your feet pointed forward, moving slowly but steadily in the direction of the things that were meant for you, the things you don’t have to push so hard for but instead fight for in a way that makes you feel alive rather than exhausted. I wish you would learn to let go of people who are not right for you.
As you open your hands and your heart to someone new, someone better for you, someone who is destined for you, I pray you let them go with grace, dignity, and lightness, seeing their essence fade into the background of your existence. I wish you the ability to stand tall and proudly as you show them the exit door to your life as you walk away from those that treat you like an interval rather than the main event. I sincerely hope you can learn to let go of the damaging self-perceptions you’ve had.
I wish you could learn to love the reflection of yourself as much as you do everyone else. I wish you the ability to treat yourself with compassion and respect while letting go of the notion that you deserve anything less from others. I hope you learn to let go of demands that you are not interested in meeting. I wish you the ability to turn down a life that wasn’t created by you, for you. I wish you would learn to ignore advice from those who don’t have your best interests in mind. I wish you the ability to shut out the constant barrage of social pressure to conform to society’s expectations of who you should be and what you ought to do in favour of defining your own identity.
But above all, I hope you learn to pursue the things that make your heart race. I hope you hold on to the folks who help you view this world in a new, better, more optimistic way. I hope you hug them close and give them your best. I’m hoping you’ll let them treat you the same way. I hope you discover music, concepts, and works of art that make you happy to be here, right now, so you were able to experience them by being present at the correct time. I wish for you to find enthusiasm in your daily activities and adventure in unexpected places.
I hope your life will be guided by your passion, perseverance, and compassion. I hope you understand that some of the strongest and most rebellious things you can do as a person are to work hard, let your passion out, and show compassion to everyone you meet. But in order to carry out these actions, you must abandon the nonsense and welcome the strange. the ambiguous. the freefall. You’ll need to experience fear, loneliness, and instability. You’ll also need to have faith that all of the suffering is necessary.

First comment! I love this, so much. It really peaks to my soul. There’s a lot we can hope for, and the difficult part is using that hope to fuel us and allow us to grasp that happiness we deserve. Thank you for such a thoughtful piece.
