Love is often interpreted as one of the most beautiful emotions experienced by an individual; in its true essence, love is supposed to evoke feelings of warmth, affection, and trust.

Unfortunately, the reality is sometimes far from the perception of love. No one deserves to experience negative feelings in a relationship since there are supposed to be built on affection, respect, reciprocity, and trust. Here are some of the emotions that love should never feel like:

  1. Love shouldn’t feel restrictive –Feelings of loving and being loved should embrace you with freedom. Control and restrictions anchored by fear or manipulation are never a part or dynamic of expressing love. Relationships should foster equitable treatment and opportunities.
  2. Love shouldn’t feel forced – Meaningful interactions in proper or healthy relationships should come naturally without pressure or skewing of behaviors. Love shouldn’t be something that feels forced upon us, coerced for the sakes of fulfilling non-aligned needs.
  3. Love shouldn’t feel abusive – Love should promote protection and safety for everyone involved. When expressing even hard feelings, love shared should at no point feel abusive or belittling; it should not be about humiliating or hurting someone.
  4. Love shouldn’t feel like one-sided support – Love should encompass empathy and understanding for each person’s goals. Instead of expecting one person to support every decision, love should celebrate accomplishments collectively, uplifting, and promoting growth for both persons involved.
  5. Love shouldn’t feel like obligations or burdens – At the very root of it, love should bring people an elevated sense of life, an effortless addition to their cup, not anything that feels like an obligation, stressor, or problem to be managed and solved through transactional mindsets.

Love is not supposed to feel like negative energy or an obligation, it should affirm to complement your worth and constantly offer you safety, assurance, optimism, strength, completeness, and harmony in genuine ways and without ulterior motives. Trust and respect should continually be fostered in a relationship as only people who genuinely love us will promote our well-being and adaptability towards growth for both persons involved, love in turn.
